Blossoming of a Doula

I was raised mostly in upstate New York, and that is where I took my DONA International Doula training. I also grew up partly in California as a child, so this coast calls to me and feels like home. I have traveled and seen most of the United States living a nomadic, gypsy lifestyle. My family and I, divided our time between camping and hiking many National Forests and Parks and helping out on off grid communities to become more sustainable, before we settled here in beautiful Sonoma County. We are now so grateful to call this place home and continue to be amazed at all the hidden treasures and sense of community we have here!

When I became pregnant with my first child, everything changed from the way I ate, to the way I thought. The passion I always had to live a healthy, "natural" lifestyle increased probably 100 fold. At times it was too much to bare, between all the different sources of information, using an app to see what products contained GMOs and reading tons of pregnancy and birth related books. When I found the birth center in my community I was so relieved. The birth center for me, was a temple where I could seek refuge and grow. The care I received there set the foundation for my beautiful first birth. I was given tools to use and felt like my concerns actually mattered, compared to some prenatal care I had received from other care providers earlier in pregnancy. My daughter Kylie came a month early therefor we landed ourselves in hospital. Thanks to the tools I had been given, and the doula that the birth center sent me, the entire labor and delivery was a beautifully powerful experience.

With my second pregnancy of my son Connor, I felt prepared and strong. I met a doula that seemed like the perfect fit for me, and she was. She offered so much advise, be it late at night, the weekend, first thing in the morning - she was there. She was my rock. The elder women close to me had birth experiences that were jaded, of a different era, and scary; but my doula offered a gentle and uplifting outlook. My second birth was just as incredible as the first and I have the wise words, generous education and kind gestures of my doula to thank for that.

After my second birth, I knew that I wanted to be able to help out women the way I was helped. I have always had a strong passion to help others heal and in my opinion that is a lot of what birth is about, healing. We have to heal from our past wounds that block us from trusting others. Even more than that, we have to heal from our negative self talk that doesn't allow us to trust ourselves, or our bodies. Birth is an unpredictable journey and if we can learn to ride the waves, realizing we have choices in which directions we head, we can gain so much strength as women and mothers! As your doula, I am not here to sway you into how I think your birth should look. I am here to place a strong foundation of roots down, with education and support so that you gain the confidence to blossom into your birth and into motherhood.

doula care collective

I work within a collective of doulas that help support each other so we can better support our community. This network that we create within our group is a solid foundation to base our care off of and we also help provide each other back up in the unlikely event one of us was unable to fulfill our duties. We strongly believe that there is a doula for everyone, since each doula brings to the table something different, it is important to find someone that fosters a safe and healthy connection for you. We offer monthly gatherings and also frequent the Meet The Doula Nights. To find out more info on the DCC please go to: www.doulacarecollective.com
